With open eyes

Written by Dorina Betz

“But if we are the body why aren’t his arms reaching? Why aren’t his hands healing? Why aren’t his words teaching? And if we are the body why aren’t his feet going? Why is his love not showing them there is a way?” -Casting Crowns-

Looking around. Seeing the brokenness, scars and wounds of this world and of this country in particular. Hopelessness. No chances to ever make it out of the cycle of poverty and lack of prospects. Indigent people, struggling hard to make ends meet.

People in need are found in every place and every corner. You just have to open your eyes and you will see enough needs around you to be met. Did you ever ask God how he wants to meet the needs of the people around you? And how he wants to do it by using you, your time, availability, gifts, knowledge, help?

We cannot call ourselves Christians if we do not live like Christ showed us. HE never looked away. His arms were reaching. His hands were healing. His words were teaching. His feet were going and this LOVE that showed the way actually cost him his life.

“Never walk away from someone who deserves help; your hand is God’s hand for that person. Don’t tell your neighbor “Maybe some other time” or “Try me tomorrow” when the money’s right there in your pocket.” -Proverbs 3:27-28-

Our time to act is now, to open our eyes for those around us. To take our places. To live in this love that starts right in front of our feet and reaches to the ends of the earth. The next time you see people in need, pray: “Lord, do you want to meet the need of this person through me?” And then go and do whatever He tells you.
